ABOUT HOUSE OF LOVING HANDS

House of Loving Hands is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering, encouraging, and supporting women and their children who have experienced domestic violence. We provide a safe, trauma-informed transitional housing alternative for women in the Contra Costa County and greater Bay Area, offering stability during a critical period of recovery and transition.

Our programs focus on equipping women with the skills, resources, and confidence needed to achieve long-term self-sufficiency and successfully reintegrate into their communities. Through comprehensive services, including individual counseling, therapeutic support, group sessions, job training, and life-skills development, we address both immediate safety needs and long-term healing.

At House of Loving Hands, we believe in restoring dignity and rebuilding self-esteem. We intentionally celebrate each client’s progress and accomplishments, empowering women to stand on their own foundation of strength and success. Our mission is to foster healing from the inside out, creating lasting, positive change for families as they rebuild their lives with hope, stability, and renewed purpose.

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

My name is Deneshia, and I am the Founder of House of Loving Hands.

As a young girl, I dreamed of a life filled with love, marriage, children, a dog, and a home surrounded by a white picket fence. I believed in happily ever after. But the life I imagined became something I never could have prepared for.

What began as a dream slowly turned into a nightmare. During my marriage, I endured seven years of abuse, emotional, physical, and psychological. The violence escalated over time and ultimately led to a moment that should have taken my life: my throat was slit. By the grace of God, I survived.

That moment could have ended my story, but instead, it became the beginning of my purpose.

Healing was not easy. Survival required strength I didn’t know I had. As I rebuilt my life, I committed myself to understanding not only my own trauma, but the deeper impacts of domestic violence on women and children. I earned an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development with a focus on Women. Through my education, I gained insight into how trauma affects thought patterns, behavior, families, and entire communities.

I learned that domestic violence does not discriminate. It crosses all boundaries, race, religion, income, education, and culture. And too often, women suffer in silence, believing they are alone, to blame, or without options.

House of Loving Hands was born from that truth, and from my heart.

I founded this organization to be the support I once desperately needed. A place where women and their children are met with compassion, safety, resources, and unconditional love. A place where survivors are reminded that what happened to them is not okay, and it is not their fault.

Our motto reflects the message every survivor deserves to hear:
“You’re Not Alone. It’s Not Okay. And It’s Not Your Fault.”

House of Loving Hands is more than a nonprofit; it is a promise. A promise that survivors will be seen, heard, and supported as they reclaim their lives.

I am a survivor. I am an advocate.
And I am my sister’s keeper.
